I danced a dance tonight that started with allemande N by right 1.5, w/next
balance and swat the flea, pull by back to original N for a swing. It had
Flea in the name and I think Bob Isaacs may have written it. Does anyone
have the correct name, author, moves?
These may be the moves:
A1: N Alle R 1.5, next N balance L and swat the flea.
A2: PB this N and swing original N
B1: Circle L 3/4, swing P
B2: Ladies chain, star L to progress
The other was a dance called Naked in California. Need same info.

Hi Rich,
Here's the second dance "Naked in California" by Nils Fredland. The name
of the dance goes something like this:
The dance was called "the No Name Dance" for short time. I ran into Nils
somewhere (can't remember which State) and told him he needed to get a name for that
dance because it was getting picked up quickly and being called by callers like Susan
Petrick, (who travels a lot) etc. Around that same time, Nils had just called at the very
popular Dance Awakening contra dance weekend in California, which happens to be held at
Harbin Hot Springs, where in between lots of dancing, there is lots of hot tub
soaking..... (clothing optional), hence the name of the dance....
It's a great dance with two neighbor swings with the same N

You have the moves correct, and I call it Flea Circus. It's worth noting that;
A1. N1 allemande L 1 1/2, N2 balance, box the gnat
A2. N2 pull by R, N1 swing
is not as good, as the pull by R makes it harder for the gents to get their R hand in the
correct swing position. This is a rare example of a swap the flea being more useful than
a box the gnat.

New subject: What kind of tune....
Things have been quiet here for a little while, so I'm going to toss
out a question:
What kind of tune would you ask for for the dance Take All of the
Credit and None of the Blame (see below -- if anyone remembers the
B2, please help with that too-- I had it on two cards, and I have a
note on the one that I can find that what I have for the B2 is wrong....)
In any event, I just danced it recently and realized how much it
crosses the phrase in the A2 -- the first balance comes on 1,2,3,4
but then the 2nd comes on 5,6,7,8, with the Hey crossing the
phrase. The dancers had a little trouble figuring out where it
should be when I was dancing (though it worked itself out after a few
times through), but I think that with the right tune it could work
well. It's a fun dance.

I think part of why you're finding the phrasing confusing is that the
dance as you have it is a little confused, with 24 bars in the A2.
Normally 'take all the credit (and none of the blame)' would be
notated something like:
A1 (8) Neighbors dosido 1.25 to wave of 4
(4) Balance wave
(4) Neighbor aleman R 1/2, gents pass left (or pull by)
A2 (4) Partner balance
(8) Half hey (PR, LL, NR, GL)
(4) Partner balance
B1 (8) Half hey (PR, LL, NR, GL)
(8) Partner swing
B2 (8) Right and left through
(8) Ladies chain
The hey in the A2 doesn't cross a phrase boundry but might feel
awkward if the A part had strong 8 beat sub phrases. The A2 and B1
work closely together so a tune that majorly changed feels between the
A and B parts also wouldn't be great. But I think most common contra
tunes would not be confusing for this dance.
