The Gainesville FL dance community has always provided childcare. We
hire someone to watch any children who don't want to dance. Parents
pay $5/child which goes to the childcare provider. We guarantee the
childcare provider $20 if no children show up (which is pretty rare).
Many of our children dance but also want to play with the other kids
some. We have had a few children grow up in our community and are
still dancing as adults. I am a huge advocate for providing
childcare!

Yep. As fantastic as our dance community is, we pretty much loose the young
family demographic. We have almost the perfect set-up: a front hall with a
fantastic wood floor and a back hall that is carpeted, separated by two
approximately 20 foot hallways on either side, each with a set of doors
...the only complication...the rent doubles if we use the back hall. We
fill the dance hall and the stage, so there is no room in the main hall.
Hmmmm...but you have given me an idea Jolaine....thanks for posting.

In ATL, the kids hang out in the hallway adjacent to the hall. Only we adults care
whether the space is actually a room. For the kids, it will be a spaceship or house or
zoo, no matter what it looks like to us. Corralling the younger set might be accomplished
with a row of chairs or overturned table, though we have never used that and even my once
three year old knew to stay 'in bounds'.
