On Monday evening, STL caller/dancer/dance writer Bob Green's daughter
Sarah posted:
It is with a very sad heart that I report that Bob Green has passed on to
his eternal dance. He was surrounded by Martha and his 3 daughters and
listening to a recording by Stringdancer. We know that he was loved by many.
Stringdancer was a band Martha played in for many years... I know there
will be no visitation. But a burial and graveside service will be held
Thursday or Friday at Belle Fontaine Cemetery in St. Louis.

This hurts. Such a dynamic man. Big heart and huge talent and personality. Feeling for

Bob Green
Welcoming and generous, spirited and gregarious, bighearted and personable,
easygoing and hilarious.
He was devoted to his Martha. And always spoke with such pride about his
daughters. I am so glad he was part of this world and so sad he is now
departed from it.

Very sad indeed. I was calling in St. Louis last April and got to hang out with Bob.
Always glad to see his smiling face.
I wrote this dance for him and called it at that dance. Martha helped with the B2.
My sincere condolences to Martha and the rest of the family.

I, too, wrote a dance dedicated to Bob. The return up the hall in A1
resembles a “march,” like his birth month. And if done to the right tempo,
the A2 will hark back to English Country, which I believe Bob liked almost
as much as contra (or maybe it was the opposite)

A1: Usually dancers are encouraged to turn towards their neighbor when they

A2: The Cast and go below is borrowed from English Dance. 1’s cast first,
pushing off from partner {with inside hand} and looping around {outside
shoulder} to rejoin partner below the 2’s, who have meanwhile moved up to
the spot just vacated by their neighbors.
A2: 1’s will want to step back to edge of set while 2’s are swinging AND

Bob will be dearly missed, in so many ways. My wife and I were able to get down to St.
Louis over the past couple of weeks to visit with Martha and say good bye to Bob, The St.
Louis contra and ECD dance communities have done a wonderful job supporting Martha through
this difficult time.
The graveside service this week will be a small family affair. I believe there are plans
afoot to have a larger dance community event for Bob at some point in the future.
