At this point, everyone is on the opposite side of the set from their initial position. And we end on the wrong side of the set 8 beats late. If we replace this with a half hey, we end on the right side of the set right on time. The thing I'm most unsure about is how well the half hey would lead into the left hand star. In my head it seems like it would lead into the right hand star better. However, that makes it left hand star into a do-si-do, and that's also not quite as smooth. Maybe I'm wrong about the smoothness. I'd have to dance it to be sure. Can anyone else comment on this? So, obviously, I don't know if this was the original dance or what the name or author of it was. I'd love to find out.

This weekend (July 6-8) we (PamSethJex) are hosting Hot Squares 2007. It is a full weekend of (practically) all squares, held at our house in Decatur, GA. In years past participants have danced away, gushing at what a fabulous time they have had. We get a small group of people (16-18 dancers) and learn lots of different moves from across the spectrum of Modern Western Square Dance (club squares) programs. We will be learning moves from Basic, Mainstream, Plus, Advanced, and Challenge lists. Our caller is Dan Sahlstrom, from Minneapolis. He has quite a bit of experience calling club squares to contra dancers, so is prepared to teach at our pace. In some ways, you can think of this as an all no-walk thru squares weekend. This event is not gender balanced, so you get the opportunity to explore either side of the dance couple during the weekend, no limits. The weekend includes 5 dance sessions and 5 meals. The food is potluck (or you can throw a few bucks to cover your food). We eat together, dance together, relax together. It is a community weekend of dancing, conviviality, and fun.
