I have a "Cold Pig in Warm Mud", first heard it from Penn Fix in 1995,
and it's published that way in Midwest Folklore. Maybe the slightly
altered version is slightly renamed?
I haven't used it much but have approached it as a "let loose and live
with what happens" dance -- if the stars have more or fewer than four
people, that's ok, you just have to come back to your partner. In the
box next to Eric Zorn's "The Axiom of Choice". :-)

Interesting discussion, looks like a fun dance, but what temperature is the pig?
I have a dance card with a cold pig and warm mud! The title on the you tube
video title has a warm pig, but the title frame in the video has a cold pig. I
suppose the pig would be happy either way.

In the end, it doesn't really matter which star you go to -- you just
find your partner on the correct side for a swing after the star. That
makes it a nice, resilient dance.
I was at a weekend where the caller (Bob Isaacs) pointed this out, and
challenged dancers to see how big or small the stars could get. I was
sitting out, but I think there were instances of stars of ten to
eleven people at times. See for yourself, as this dance was recorded

I like this theory. Could we agree that Mike's original dance is "... Cold Pig
... Wam Mud", and the modified version is "... Warm Pig ... Cold Mud"?
I'd like to think that whoever decided to change the dance also cleverly modified the
title. I wonder if we can identify who that was.
Personally, I've never called the "Warm Pig" variation, and I'll have to
stare at it for a while to decide whether I think it's worth trying. In a way, that
takes us full circle back to Katy's original question.

Actually, what I have is my collection is Cold Pig in Warm Mud. Makes more sense.
I can't see a perfectly comfortable warm pig heading for some cold mud. Maybe an
uncomfortably hot pig.
