Hello,
That's one of my favorite dances to call, and dancers always seem to
enjoy it too. I collected it with two allemandes to progress:
B2. Ladies alle. Right 1 1/2; Neighbor alle. Left 1 1/2 (really 1 3/4)
I haven't tried the orignal version.
PASS THRU TO A WAVE ACROSS
* Start to walk straight across the set, passing right shoulders with
your partner, putting the women in the middle
* As the women pass each other take left hands and turn ¼ so W1 faces
up and W2 faces down the set
* Men continue to the ends and join that wavy line
* M1 face up, M2 face down
* You are in a wavy line across the set with the women in the middle
holding left in left, and the men across the set from where they
startedholding right hands with the women
I think this is one of those easier-done-than-said things. Asking the
ladies to turn 1/4 might be kind of confusing -- as long as everybody
(gents especially) knows they will end up on the other side of the set,
and the ladies catch left hands with each other and give right hands to
their Neighbor, people will end up in the correct spot. -Also, all the
1s are facing up and 2s facing down, not just the men.
It's true, the Men Alle. Left 1x in 4 counts is quick, but they start
out so close together and have momentum from the sliding Right that they
get around no problem. That is, if you can make them believe that they
actually are allemanding Left, not Right. The other thing I've run into
is that that people are sometimes confused about which direction to find
their new Neighbor in out of the final allemande.
Heh, I just realized you're calling it tonight, and are probably at the
dance now. Whoops. I hope it went well!

Subject: [Callers] Question About It's a Pirate's Life for Me
To: callers(a)sharedweight.net
Hi,
I am preparing to call Nathaniel Jack?s ?It?s A Pirate?s Life for Me?
tonight. The dance is below. I am wondering why at the end of the
B2 the
allemande with your neighbor is a second allemande right. Since
the women
already have their right hands busy with their own allemande right
it would
seem easier for them to do an allemande LEFT with their neighbor,
and since
the next move is a balance with your new neighbor it would seem
easier for
all to be coming out of that allemande left, rather than out of an
allemanderight. Do I have this part of the dance wrong?
The dance notation is followed by my understanding of some of the
otherparts as well. If you have time take a look. I would love
your comments on
this too. My main concern at this point however is with that second
allemande right. It seems like it should be an allemande left.
