Anyone recognise this:
Becket Formation
A1: Circle Left 3/4; Pass Through
New Ladies Allemande Left 1 1/2 to Partner and Ocean Wave
A2: Balance R/L, Rory O'More
Balance L/R, Rory O'More
B1: Full Hey - Ladies start Left Shoulder
B2: Partner Balance & Swing
I noted it down at a dance but didn't get a chance to ask the name or
the author. Can anyone help?

That is very similar to Missing Duck by Erik Hoffman.
However in A1 the ladies Allemande left x1/2, then allemande right
with partner x3/4 to a long wavy line.
Its a terrific dance!

Fidgety Feet by Mark Richardson, but the hey starts by allemanding your partner by the R
half way, men pass L shoulder.
If the music is very fast, there's no time for the balance before the swing.

If you start the hey with the ladies turning left half way - wouldn't that shorten the
hey and avoid the timing issue for the balance?

When I read the original post I thought "Surely the hey should start
passing partner right shoulder after the Rory O'More stuff. And Lisa
says that in effect it does - I would think of it as right pull-by with
partner as the first change of the hey. That gives 8 changes in 8 bars,
which sound fine to me - though I wouldn't want to argue with Lisa
Greenleaf!

I agree - that is how I first saw it too and would be the most comfortable way to start.
I also see the problem Lisa described - if you start with your partner - the hey requires
all 8 changes be completed. In many heys that go to a B&S you sort of skip that last
change. If the tempo isn't to fast this is fine - but could be a problem if the
dancers can't keep up with the tempo during the hey.

Think of the body action following a ROM spin to the left--you are focused on your
partner, and the beauty of the ROM move is the hand catch. This is especially true if you
spin as opposed to slide. I think it would be awkward for the women to spin or slide and
then have to redirect their momentum to pass left with each other. It might be easier
just to pass R with each other at that point, but then they have to ignore their partner
and get focussed on the other woman pretty quickly.
You do have time for a balance before the swing if the dancers are experienced enough to
move with conviction (get that half allemande R in there ), and if the music is a good
measured tempo. I often call this to French Canadian tunes and I can get the balance in
their most of the time, but not always. I might teach it without the balance, but if
it's clear the tempo and the dancers will allow for it, then I'll just cue a
balance as the dance is going.
