I have long said that contra dancing was full of folks of 3 basic types: artists,
engineers and care givers.
The appeal to artists seems inherently obvious, great music, colorful dancers, lovely
people. For engineers the appeal is the mathematics and the low demand for conventional
skills. For caregivers, the opportunity to receive care and healing touch instead of
always giving.
There are many other professions represented in contra dancing but these folks seem
particularly drawn to it.
