I think barb has a point. As a caller I am hired to teach and run the dance while working
with the band and dancers in the most efficient and effective way. At the same time, I
make it enjoyable so that most of the dancers stay even after the break because they are
having fun, which is a key ingredient to any successful dance. I can only sopt potential
problems on the dance floor and bring them to the attention of the committee or dance
manager during break. Sometimes at mic, I do mention a potential problem while teaching a
dance, making it seem like "instructions" for the dance. I found that works if
I do it in a way that is informative and not preaching or lecturing. One time, a few
dancers came up to me and thanked me for pointing out something on the floor.

Subject: Re: [Callers] Duties of the Caller Role
I can think of some others:
Present a program consistent with the vision of the producer. If this means for
example "one chestnut per night", then so be it.
Raise the dancing level of the crowd a wee bit each time.
Be as prepared as you can be.
