It's in G&T. Maybe a clue there. It doesn't seem to work for me when I
envision it without the CT. I'm Probably missing something but it seems
like if you don't do a CT before the circle L all the way around, you are
heading away from your partner.

If you do the dance as descibed it will play out just fine. It is a circle
left the whole way, and direction of travel is reversed. Hence, I believe it
is a reverse becket dance (but I dont have Gene's books to check).

Actually, I noticed that in Double Boomerang the PT across has a courtesy
turn, that would fix it. This is from a website with his dances:
