That's it. Formally known as the "Weston Mountain Zia formation". Where the
lines connect/intersect every other time through the dance you have a square when the
dancers are 'out' at the 'top'. Most Zia's I've seen have the
choreographic challenge/limitation that the moves/calls for the square have to be
effectively the same as in the contra (which is why the swing tends to be in the middle).

Subject: Re: [Callers] Zia Formation
I'm not familiar with the name "Zia", bit I remember doing a dance at
NEFFA that was essentially four contra lines at right angles to each
other, with a square formed by the first couples at the point where
the
lines joined. The other couples in the contras lines could be
considered
additional concentric squares, but they seemed to operate more like
contra lines, with interesting things happening at the point where they
joined.
Am I confusing two different formations?
Rich.

I do not know if there are any 'experts'
on the zia formation.
When I've done more than 1 intersection I've tried to have a few
hands
four/minor sets between each square/intersection.
The most I've done is with 9 squares (at SnowBall, Tampa FL) in a
tic-tac-toe
formation. But, as has probably been noted, Zia's are
incredible space hogs. And due to the choreography quirks of the
formation, they seem to have the swings in the middle of the set, which
takes up even more space. Every time I've done it, people get crowded.
