Here's a 40-bar singing square from the 1950s. It's only 6 times through, but it's in five 8-bar phrases (two in the "A" part, three in the "B").

I'm going to head off-list and talk to my friend Norb Spencer, accordionist extraordinaire, major tune-hound, and player of all three
likely-to-be-not-32 genres (Oldtime, Fr.C, and Scottish). Watch this space...

As far as Scottish goes, I sent John a recording of a set David Knight put
together for Foggy River Reel, which is done to 40-bar tunes. It's usually
done as 8-8-8-16 (ABABB or ABABC), though, which doesn't really fit what
he's looking for (16-16-16-16-16).
I would imagine there are others on this list who would know of other
recordings for Foggy River Reel or other 40-bar SCD reels.

Patch the Pipes is for an English dance of mine with fairly specific
choreography to fit the tune.. The tune structure is two 8-bar A phrases
followed by two 12-bar B phrases. I wouldn't think it would be a good
choice for a contra dance.

Hi all,
Despite having an extensive collection of music I have nothing
suitable for a 40 bar contra dance.
Please can anyone recommend any good recordings of 40 bars and
7 to 11 times through? Preferably they should be downloadable individually.
Thanks.
Happy dancing,
John

Hello, not sure about this message because the last callers shared weight
email I got seemed buggy....
I am on the search for *choreographers* who are a minority. Ethnic or
racial minorities, LGBTQ+, women, non-binary and transgender people, or
anything else you can think of as a minority. Looking through the
choreographer list on ContraDB, it's easy to pick out feminine names, but
it's hard to determine much else from most names. I'd love to collect more
dances written by these people. Help?

I just had an English dance arrive in my head during a nap and would
love to call it New Year's Dream. Has that name already been used for a
dance that you know of? It doesn't show up in the Caller's Box
database, which is a good start...
