Our club (in NW pf England) uses CDs and 2 of us take the club
collection each week. I also take many books, the most useful is The
Country Dance Club Book <https://www.cambridgefolk.org.uk/cdcb/>, with
instructions for many often called dances, Ceilidh, Playford, and
Contra, graded for difficulty. It also has useful tip about calling. I
have just lent it to someone who has call 1 dance at our party, with the
warning that it needs to be here again next Monday.
(I don't think my last reply has arrived, I've clicked reply to list

Yup. We had a band no show once as well
We keep an ”emergency pack” on site in Kalamazoo. Callers cards basic
to standard. Contra length danceable recordings. Portable player and
speaker.

I haven't been a contra caller for many years, but last night I
dreamt I was at a dance and the caller did not show up. There were
no other callers in attendance. So I got up there wondering what
dances I knew by heart. I think I knew how A Nice Combination
went. Then I woke up and thought about it some more. I decided
that every dance venue should keep a dance program, with
instructions, somewhere.
