I hadn't thought about it until reading this thread, but "rollaway with a half
sashay" has survived as a "half" figure in contra terminology while other
"half" figures have shed the "half" in most dance communities. What we
now generally call promenade, chain, and right & left through, were once "half
promenade," "half chain," and "half right and left through." I
suppose that means that the rollaway figure has a longer half-life . . .
