Hi,
I'm trying to get more live music for my contra
dancers here in Christchurch. I'd appreciate any
advice.
This Saturday I'm giving a lunch for musicians who
want to know about playing for dances.
I plan on playing examples of music used for contra
dancing - pointing out that a variety of styles work, as
long as they are 8 beat phrasing 32 bar tunes.
I'd like to be able to show videos of contra bands
playing music suited to a given dance (i.e. accents
for balances, smooth for heys etc).
Can you suggest any youtube (or vimeo) videos
that illustrate this?
I'm expecting a mixture of abilities ranging from
professional musicians (who are friends, and who I
can not possibly pay them what they are worth with
dance proceeds), good amateurs, and beginners.
Some of them are in

(does anyone recognize the waltzers?)
Thanks,
Cheers, Bill
