We ended up with around 12 people Wed night, of which 5 are callers, 2 are children, 2 are
Math/Engineering PhDs.
We had slightly more than an hour so we couldn't cover all the dances I was sent. I
tried to focus on the dances that were the most challenging to conceptualize in my head
(ie, do a mental walk thru), or the ones that I was most concerned about end effects or
strange transitions.
We danced:
· Broken Corners, Alan Cheetham (1/2 contra corners, than the 2's finish contra
corners).
· California Twirling, Janet Levatin (balance, Montana Twirl to face back in)
· Around the Horn, John Nance (slide left, circle ½)
· Trip from Toohoolie, Janet Shepherd (circle, roll away, slide, swing)
· Interwoven Promenades, Chris Page (down the hall à CCW promenade à up the hall à CW
promenade)
· Rosie the Welder, Mark Hillegonds (contra corners with box gnat/swat the flea)
(Dave, I have a hard time visualizing all the possibilities with "Whose Turn"
but Cis called it two weeks ago so I felt covered).
The music we used was from the "Tidal Wave" CD. Having hard driving quebequios
music helps. I cannot recommend Tidal Wave enough!
Basically all the dances were a hit except Broken Corners. After 30 minutes of walk thrus,
we decided it is not worth the work. A fun idea, but needs more work on implementation.
I'll be calling "Around the Horn" and "California Twirling"
tonight. Possibly "Rosie the Welder" and possibly "Interwoven
Promeandes".
Thanks for the fun dances! I'll try to have comments about the individual dances to
the authors later.
