A note not on what to teach but how: be careful about exaggerating the “what not to do”
demo when you’re showing what to do instead—I’ve definitely run across dancers who think
“I’m not doing that [exaggerated version of the] bad thing, so I’m fine.” We show the
exaggerated version because it’s more visible, but doing so can backfire. E.g., not taking
your own weight when giving weight is shown (“hanging off” the other dancer)—that’s pretty
impossible to see unless it’s exaggerated, which says to me that showing it isn’t the
right way to teach it.
