Agreed that asking for exact numbers can detract from the sense of fun. My choice of
longways for the next number often depends in part on how many couples get up. If they can
easily be arranged into 5- or 6-couple sets, I’ll do a dance that works best at that
length. If the lines are long (8 couples or more), I’ll go with Galopede or Virginia
Unreel (just what it sounds like, the beginning and end of Va. Reel minus the “strip the
willow”).

I usually stat with Galopde as a whole set dance (or 2 long sets side by side). I dislike
asking ONS, wedding guests to make sets of a particular number (and needing 1 more/less
couple)
