Which "we" are you talking about? I started contra two years after you,
but that was with the background of "college-style" square dancing (i.e.
square dancing with lots of energy and flourishes). I think there's
always been some tension between people who want flourishes and people
who want something a bit more sedate; even now, I call myself a "contra
cut-up" to warn people.
