I can't help but think of Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing "This is MY dance
space and this is YOUR dance space." (circles arm in front of his torso and
hers)
He was cute, she was cute, it seemed so serious, but still made me chuckle.
I'm not sure that's even what you're after, Jo.
Are you looking for a way to get the folks in the line to help keep the line
well-spaced? Or something that helps people make each other comfortable
dancing close, like in a swing or allemande? In other words, are you
looking for a couples thing or a whole line thing?

One that I heard recently was a caller telling
dancers to notice where
their feet were, and then to make sure that their feet were under them

during a swing is a bludgeon -- much safer if you tuck arm in.

Hello, all,
Are any of you teaching the concept of individual dance space? With
so
many newcomers at some dances, it would be a useful thing to
mention.
Do you have any good metaphors you use? Any visual imagery?
Thanks.
