Those that come to mind:
Batja's Breakdown (Tom Hinds)
Frustration Reel III by Bill Sacks (imp):
A1: dosido N 1 1/4 to short waves (ladies in middle)
balance, N alle R 1/2
A2: men alle L 1 1/2, partner gypsy 1 1/2
B1: ladies alle. L 1x (quick), back to partner and swing
B2: R/L through
circle L 3/4 and pass through
(This is a fun one because of the frustrated gypsy-swing in A2!)

Hello fellow callers,
I'm theoretically calling the Glen Echo (MD) dance on Friday, but as many
of you know, this is National Park land. If the Congressional standoff
continues, it may very well be that the gates will remain closed.
While things are obviously in flux, there is a possibility that I might
either calling at Glen Echo or at an alternate venue. In either case, I'd
like to incorporate some shutdown-themed dances for our DC folks.
So, in the event that I call, I'd love some ideas for dances
themed/titled
around shutdowns, openings, bickering,
childishness, etc. What have you
guys got? Any suggestions are happily welcome!
Boo. Of all the federal services shuttered, Glen Echo really hits home...
Some dances that came to mind for me were
Puttin' Cheese on the Ritz (Ron Buchanan) (something about government
cheese?)
It's a Mad, Mad World (Martha Wild)
Roadblock Reel (Bob Dalsemer)
You Can't Get There From Here (Carol Ormand)
and, who can forget
The New Parliament House Jig (John Colville) (for 9-person sets)
(representing the Australian system of government)
I also wrote a dance earlier this year called Nothing Works and We Don't
Know Why:
A1
(next) neighbor balance, swing
A2
promenade across with a wide loop (to face shadow)
1/2 hey, ladies pass right, gents ricochet
B1
partner balance, swing
B2
long lines forward and back
1/2 hey, gents pass left, ladies ricochet
(n.b. Contrary to the title, the dance actually does work. Teaching tip:
from B2, the next neighbors to progress to are on the right diagonal, but
the ricochet hey is still done with the current neighbors straight across
from you.)
