Hi Sue,
Country Dance New York (
CDNY.org) in Manhattan has a set payment policy. We
run a weekly contra dance on Saturdays. The caller's fee is $110.00. If
the caller lives up to 50 miles away, no travel allotment; 50-100 miles
away, $50 for travel; 100+ miles away, $100 for travel. So, a caller coming
down from say Mass. or VT would get a total of $210 for this gig. We do
hire a lot of callers and bands from out of town/out of state. Special
event dances have separate payment arrangements, each is negotiated and they
usually pay more, to bring in a "name" caller and band. Musicians for our
regular dances get $90 each, and the same travel payment applies, at a band
level; so the most the band would get for travel is $100. I hope this
helps, although I think we are in a higher rent and pay situation than most
groups.

Hi,
I know that "it varies" and probably quite widely, but I'm trying to
get
an idea of what is typically charged for one-time or semi-regular dance
calling (not the high end festivals and balls and camps) or how receipts are
divided between caller, band, and house. My interest is as caller, band, and
dance organizer so all input would be appreciated. You can reply off-list to

Thanks,
