Hi Everyone,
I called HofTB last Friday! It went well, thanks to your all's input. It was one of
those evenings when I had a hankering to call a bunch of "new" dances.....
Thanks for the explanation of the shadow. I studied them all, then opted for the
"introduce partner, neighbor across, shadow on other side" since the swings are
with all 3. I think my hang up in my head was that I remember dancing this dance and I
incorrectly remembered the walk thru and shadow introduction differently.....
I opted to call it with the "1/2 Promenade" - the way it was originally
written, however I did notice the crowded line and saw how a "Rt & Left
Thru" may have been better (per the discussions on this list-server)... it was good
to see it with my own eyes.... I kept it the 1/2 Prom, since I did the first walk thru
that way.
Regarding Seth's comment:
However, I've been watching dancers in that roll away. If you think about that roll
away, the momentum is opposite of a swing. Gents roll the ladies away in a
counter-clockwise spin, from right to left. The ladies land in their partners arms turning
CCW, only to then start moving CW.
(and Chris' response...)
the first time I danced this dance, I was very lucky to have both a strong shadow and
partner with a good sense of timing. I actually sometimes like the momentum shifts as a
dancer b/c it forces me to stay on my toes. Rythym and timing come pretty easy for me as
a dancer, and I sometimes get a little bored if there's no challenge in it.... I guess
it loops back to Lynn A's question about flow and Tom H's response....
On a final note, I'm sorry to miss you all at the RPLW!!!! A semi- local community
(San Luis Obispo) is hosting it's first ever dance weekend, and since that community
and the Central Coast has been very good to me during my first year of calling, I opted to
support those communities. It's a mix of national and local talent, and bridges
Southern, Central and Northern California together....

I'll be watching out for the syllabus though, you can bet! I think the West Coast
representation is: Jeremy Korr and Jim Saxe...
Have a great time,
