I have done lots of ONS dances on carpet - no big deal.  Even turning is not an issue as long as it is not thick carpet.  I even prefer it to the portable parquet dances floors some place have. Very crowded, AND, I just found out, carpeted. Crowded I think I can handle (though recommendations would be welcome), but carpeting -- eeackk.
