Hmm. "Devil's Dervish" (Linda's
variation of Al Olson's "Devil's Duty")
does not fit the 'someone from California' criterion.
And "Major Hey" does not fit the 'improper formation' criterion. (For
anyone who loves "Major Hey, but does not love 40-bar dances, Carol Ormand
has a 32-bar variation!)
However, i did a bit of sleuthing... there's a Chris Page variant of the
same Al Olson dance, called "The Dancer's Duty" - which fits both
criteria!
It's on his page

While "Dancer's Duty" does fit the criteria, it's a bit more ...
obscure. In fact, I'd be (happily) surprised if anyone besides me has
called that one.
I did talk to another caller who was there on the evening Hanny
Budnick encountered the dance at Glenside, PA. Apparently it was
"Major Hey", which has received wide circulation.
(I'm guessing the improper bit is a misremembering. And Erik Hoffman
mentions in his own book that you can drop the rory o'more chunk for a
32-bar version.)
