Indeed it is. 200 years is a VERY long time. I don't remember the
context of the original question, but ... how many dances from 200 years
ago are we still dancing now? 20? 30? 100? Playford and ECD and Colonial
dancing does a bunch of them, but I suspect the total count of dances
from that time that are still danced today are under 200 (I expect to be
corrected vociferously momentarily).
Here's my real point though:
I suspect the best way to keep your dances is to write really good ones,
and then get them into the dance repertoire. Then people will be dancing
the sequences. That will really help keep them alive for a long time.
I expect "A Nice Combination" (Gene Hubert) and "Simplicity Swing"
(Becky Hill) will be around for a long time.
