Hi,
Does anyone know of a list similar to this one for those involved
in teaching/prompting English Country Dance?
Thanks,
Sue R.

Hi,
How have you handled parents bringing their too young children into
a dance insisting "they can do the dance" when they are too small/young
to participate in any meaningful way, and generally are just confused,
clog up the dance and prevent the others from dancing (and the
youngster from having any fun either)? This is probably not a problem
at your usual contra dance, but at "family dance" events (longways and
such).
Cheers,
Sue R.

Hi Sue,
At Rochester, NY Thanksgiving Festival, we tried this year to have a "Family
Friendly" line.
It wound up being hard to keep that line going, because the beginners tended
to join it as well,
so without enough experienced dancers, it tended to fall behind the rest of
the hall. The caller
did a Great Job of keeping an eye on the trouble brewing and kept the line
together, though.
Next year, we'll try making it a "Kid Friendly" line, and try to steer
beginners to more experienced
partners.
The issue was identified by several comments on the survey from the prior
year, and the organizing
committee decided that we wanted to remain inclusive, and safe for the kids,
while not degrading the experience of people who paid for a weekend of dancing
of the quality they have come to expect from that event. We explained to
people with kids, as they came in, that it was for safety. It was well received by
everyone we spoke to.

Once again, this year at the Ralph Page Dance Legacy Weekend, we will be
shoving a bunch of tables together and having a lunch gathering of
people on the SharedWeight lists. A relaxed gathering of people who want
to talk about calling, dance music or organizing a dance series. Always
enjoyable, interesting and informative.
Hope to see you there! Look for tables pushed together at the back of
the dining hall with a SharedWeight sign.
Happy dancing!

Gang,
Below is a dance that was fun to dance but I only got part of it. Kathy Anderson called this at A&E week in Pinewoods this past summer. Does anyone have the missing pieces/correct dance?
Quick Spin 4X4 by Carol Ormand
A1 8,8 Long lines , ladies grand chain
A2 16 yada yada yada, star right/left to partner
B1 4,4,4,4 Rory Omore from a star
B2 4,12 Part bal and swing ending in original direction
I remember a neighbor swing and a partner swing but then again I remember walking up hill to school both ways in two feet of snow. Oh well, your help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello everyone,
It's that time of year again: Time to sign up for the Ralph Page Dance
Legacy Weekend! John McIntire kindly reminded me that preregistrations
are due soon. If you haven't been before, it's a wonderful weekend with
great workshops, opportunities to meet other callers and fabulous
dancing! And don't forget our annual SharedWeight lunch gatherings! I've
had some great discussions at that table with other callers.
Hope to see you all there!

Hi Chris,
A warm, rainy (and muddy) day allows me to stay indoors, at home, and
get something useful done. Like catch up on committee work!
I have attached the flyer/registration sheet for the 2009 RPDLW. Would
you please pass this along to the Shared Weight list? It is too late to apply
for scholarships but work exchange is still available for those who find the
program costs prohibitive. Also, you could remind folks that the food offered
is an easy but expensive option. Bringing one's own is easy and there is a
more than decent grocery nearby.
Hope to see you at the weekend.
Cheers, John
Yes, that's the correct way for a normal Becket
The way I remember is, the couple who were in the "1's" position before the circle-left-one-place-into-Becket will still progress down the set as expected

Hi,
When I check the dance out, the progression is to the left (clockwise).
Someone help me with the terminology, I thought this was the usual way
for a Becket to progress, or can it be either way?
