Re: 9-person dance

I got the dance Le Capitaine from a friend in Quebec who said she danced it in the Gaspe region. Anyway, I published it in my collection BRANDY. Pretty much the same as Leslie Gotfrit’s version. Another dance from Quebec: Le Neuf. The Nine. Three any gender threes facing up the hall. All lead up the set four steps and back twice. Middle person swing right hand partner with right arm hook (crochette droit) thern swing left hand partner with left arm hook (crochette gauche) then do that swinging part again. (Encore une fois). Then, top right hand person and top left hand person, dance down the outside by themselves to stay at bottom and all the other side persons move up a place. The dance is danced unphrased, so you can use crooked French chunes. Continue as long as you want. ****************** We seldom get to do any of these odd person out dances because the “ninth’ person is usually outside having Une t’ coupe, a little drink, of Caribou (whiskey and port chaud).
