Many Yahoo Groups have transferred to IO Groups. This has been with all content messages, imges and files etc. The IO folk do the work.
However IO have just raised thier fees!!.
But the big group that I do know was successfull was the very active OTRR (Old Time Radio Researchers) group.
Meanwhile I will point out again that the mst valuable part of a Yahoo Group is the membership, that is the email addresses of members. They should be downoade and saved.
BTW there is also advice from Yahoo that in order to retain the email functionality of a Yahoo Group every member needs to log in and change the profile settings to receive emails - not special messages etc., but emails from other members.
After Dec 14. all content will be removed, files, database, images, archive of previous messages, etc.

I've set up a mailman list with the Yahoo archives, I don't know if this

can use this to keep the archives on-line.
You can find it here: https://list.peelwiki.com/mailman3/hyperkitty/list/peel-group@list.peelwiki…
I've imported about half of the archive, but I can add the rest as well.
As a replacement for the mailing list I think it would be best to create
a Peel group at groups.io, without transferring any content or members.
This would probably be more reliable and faster than using the mailman
list that I set up.
I've also uploaded the Yahoo archives in "mbox" format that I downloaded
from Yahoo, it's on the Mooo server in the Misc folder.

I'm sorry to announce that Ann Appleing died on the morning of 17th October.
For as long as I can remember, Derek and Ann have been a Folk Sales point. Their caravan was a familiar sight at many
Folk Festivals and dance weekends in England, and they had an enormous supply of books, CDs and other items related to
folk dancing and music.
If you want any more information, please contact Derek Appleing: Derek-Ann(a)Folksales.co.uk

Preserving the content.
I have been using a tool called PG Offline to download the conversations, files and photos from this and a number of other Yahoo Groups that I am a member of. The files, links and photos are download as files within a folder structure on disk and the conversations/posts are loaded into a SQLLite database from which they can be extracted and parsed.
At the moment I have the following downloaded/archived.
- Conversations/Posts = 24,432
- Files = 104 / 101 MB
- Photos = 140 / 30MB
- Links = 28
As was mentioned previously, groups.io appears to have functionality to migrate data. It would seem worth doing this just have an online backup. #yiv7985079688 #yiv7985079688 -- #yiv7985079688ygrp-mkp {border:1px solid #d8d8d8;font-family:Arial;margin:10px 0;padding:0 Dear All,
I'll send something longer and more informative in a while, but this is a
heads up.
We are planning to make a change with the trad-dance-caller list. It will
move away from yahoogroups and over to the "SharedWeight" platform. The
general operation of the list will be pretty much the same. All that will
be missing will be ads and fussing with a Yahoo ID.
the list content will continue in the direction it has followed in recent
years. We'll be dealing dances in formations other than contra -- squares
in particular, as we have a fair number of folks with strong square dance
backgrounds on the list. And we'll be a resource for dance parties -- one
night stands, wedding dances, community dances -- and all that sort of
thing.
When the transition comes -- after it -- I intend to make a little effort
at stimulating communication on those topics. I have a few old things that
I want to complete -- eg. a checklist for dance party communication. And
I'm interested in building and sharing repertoire in the everything but
contra world -- especially the things that work for dance parties.
I am also interested in locating a few brave individuals who might be
interest in becoming moderators and regular contributors to this list. If
you think you'd like to be involved in helping in the revitalization
effort, contact me off list at mailto:ridgek@gmail.com .
Thanks, as ever, for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Ridge
