Re: Naming and selling community dance

I'm working on a blurb to convince administrators at a local college to include barn dancing/community dancing as part of their orientation program. I'm trying to come up with the best name for it. "Community Dance" doesn't feel like a good fit, it is not open to the community, it is for the incoming Freshman and/or their student leaders. "Barn Dance" has me worried about hokey/uncool - setting up students to be opposed to it from the beginning. "Ceilidh," although hard to spell, does have cool Irish panache about it. Perhaps "American Ceilidh"? I don't want to use 'Contra dance' because that is simply confusing - and it won't be contra. I don't want to just say "Dance" because then people will think like their HS prom.
