I care very deeply about giving beginners a positive experience, but this
seems over-the-top (I was going to say "silly" but that sounds too
judgemental.)
Have there been complaints?
Are experienced dancers unwilling to approach a beginner and say "Would you
like me to teach you to waltz? It's easy." This happens all the time at
our dances.
Maybe you could have a 5 minute "Your First Waltz" workshop before the half
time waltz. (Really five minutes should get them walking around the room
in 3/4 time and having fun doing it.)

How about running Waltz 101? I did this at a Civil War dance workshop a
couple weeks ago, took three minutes.
