Hi fellow organizers,
Thanks to those who have added their information to the content collector!
It's only been up for one day and we already have info for 15 organizers.

I've just sent the google doc to those who have participated already. It
will be interesting to know what others think but it actually brought me a
lot of joy to see your faces and get a feel for where folks are and what
they are organizing.
*Re the question about folks from other countries participating:*
Totally - we'd love to have folks from other places. I thought about adding
'country' as I know a few people are not in Canada or the US. However, I
didn't want the Canadian and Americans to be putting their countries as
that would be too much info. Short answer - yes, please participate! :)
*Re question about keeping the doc updated:*
My plan is to make the google document editable (suggestions/comments) by
all those who contribute their info. I'll send out a reminder once every 6
months or so in case people forget it exists & that they can update their
info. (This is no more work than approving new members to a listserv which
I already do for two other SW lists). My hope is that through this
process, the list will stay fairly updated.

Maybe it would be better for people to sign their posts. My

New subject: Paying for bands at big dance weekends
Hello organizers
I've been having conversations with other organizers and talent about pay at dance
weekends. Our conversation started with talking about our local contra dance weekend, and
moved to a discussion about the local ECD weekend. Then the discussion expanded to several
musicians who make their living as musicians, often at contra or ECD weekends.
We learned that our contra weekend was paying at the low end and that several musicians
were not interested in coming to play for our weekend because we were not paying enough.
We are curious about what different weekends pay? Do you pay different amounts for the
headlining band versus a second band? What if one of the bands is a local band? Is there
interest in creating a document to share this information? I know that some places
don't like sharing money information.
I'll start.
In 2019, the Atlanta contra dance weekend was paying $700 / musician or caller, all meals,
travel expenses, and housing (generally stay with a local dancer who has many bedrooms).
When we found out we were on the low end, we raised our rates to $800/per.

My since-resuming weekend bookings have been $600 $650 $800 $800 $900 $900
(+ travel, meals, housing). None of these were local. Lower numbers are
generally smaller weekends where we were willing to play for less than our
usual rates to help them out. Older data:

Beantown Stomp (pretty sure, but this was my first year not as a main
organizer so I might be wrong) guaranteed $550 + profit sharing, which
turned out to be $866. Everyone was within driving distance.

The numbers I gave for myself and for Beantown Stomp were for bands playing
the whole weekend, usually trading off with one other band. This most
commonly looks like 2hr Friday night, 1.5hr Saturday morning or a workshop,
1.5hr Saturday afternoon, 2hr Saturday night, 1.5hr Sunday morning, 1.5hr
