You can also put them on Post Approval. I think that lasts for 30 days, at which time it goes away, but can be renewed if necessary. We also get some requests from unexpected places. I usually look at them and make a decision (probably very subjective and arbitrary) as to whether this appears to be a real person or a bot. Real people can also post unwanted content, but it seems to be less of a problem. If the entity requesting to join is in a whole bunch of groups and has few, if any, friends, then it is probably a bot and I tend to reject them. Others can be more difficult to be sure about. So I usually approve them, but put them on Post Approval. If the 30 days goes by without any problems then they are probably OK. Just because someone is from another country doesn't necessarily mean they aren't legitimate. We have one person on our Central Illinois English Country Dancers' email list who is from Korea. There is no dancing in her area, but she likes the Jane Austen books and is interested in the dancing. I don't know if she is getting any benefit from being on our list, I have suggested some others that might be more useful, but she is certainly welcome to be a part of our group, even though very remotely.
