Hi Folks,
I've attached the organizer discussion notes from this year's Dance Flurry.
Hopefully the attachment goes through!
There were over 35 attendees and the discussion was really inspiring!

Dear fellow dance organizers,
We’re very excited to be gathering with many of you this spring at Puttin’
On The Dance 3 - Dancing Forward Together!
We want your input to help develop the conference program.
Can you share your thoughts by completing this short survey by March 12th
<https://forms.gle/Zy7ce7Aij2dhBte38>?
Reminder that conference registration opens March 1st at
www.puttinonthedance.org!
We have some great news. We’ve heard from five organizations that have
pledged funds to support the conference and reduce the cost for
participants. We’re grateful to Country Dance & Song Society (CDSS), New
England Folk Festival Association (NEFFA), DownEast Friends of the Folk
Arts (DEFFA), Montpelier Contra Dance, and Belfast Flying Shoes for
stepping up early with sponsorship grants.
Plus, some organizations are offering partial scholarships. We will post
the details soon on the POTD website - how to fund your attendance page
<https://www.puttinonthedance.org/register/fund-your-attendance/>.
Thanks again for completing the survey <https://forms.gle/Zy7ce7Aij2dhBte38>
.
Dance organizers like you are so important in this world. You give people
an opportunity to connect in a positive and real way: face-to-face, hands
joined, Dancing Forward Together.
Thank you all!

Hi Y'all,
We wanted to share with you all what we think is a fantastic new resource:
Contra Connections: A Free Intermediate Contra Dance Workshop Curriculum.
Our great friend and caller Alyssa Adkins wrote the curriculum for us last
year, and gave the workshop to great reviews.
We're really excited to make it available for free at www.view from the
balcony.org
<https://brooklyncontra.substack.com/p/announcing-contra-connections-an>.
We think its a great resource, and also has some interesting content in the
intro sections (and the section on culture shaping) that may make for some
good conversations here.
Hope folks enjoy, and feel free to reach out to us with any questions, and
to Alyssa to get her to come teach it (or teach it yourself of course, its
designed for local dances to be able to pick and choose pieces from it, and
teach themselves)!
Thanks,
Christin
Hi Y'all,
Just wanted to reach out and let folks know that Brooklyn Contra has
launched a brand new SubStack to post some of our thinking about dance
organizing and resources we're creating for ourselves and others! We'd love
for folks to subscribe if they want, but also, we're planning on posting
each individual post here for people to respond to, rather than have a big
comments section on the SubStack, and we'll be doing the same thing on the
Organizers of Contra Facebook Group.
You can find us at www.viewfromthebalcony.org
See you soon!
Christin
Hi fellow dance organizers :)
Just a heads up that the annual organizers discussion at the Dance Flurry
is happening again this year!
My thought is to do similar to last year and have folks share as many best
practices/great ideas as possible from their home communities so we can all
learn about neat ideas that we can take home with us.
However, if you have *OTHER things you'd like to discuss or ideas for the
workshop, please please please send me an email!*
Thanks :)
Emily
We are debating the impact (and org expense) of mailing brochures to weekend past and present weekend event participants or interested parties.
Our team is split in their opinions and so wanted to reach out for thoughts and experiences.
The brochure will be available to view and download from website.
Opinions or feedback on your experience with this???

I don't want to start a whole new thread, but as people think about options
I want to remind folks that it is important to have someone involved who
can "think like a Fire Marshall".

Hi all,
I’m a new treasurer for an organization that is preparing to hold it’s
first weekend since before the pandemic. We are a registered 501c3
non-profit operating at less than 50K per year. We will be paying our
talent more than the threshold for filing 1099’s ($600+), thus it is my
understanding that we’ll need to get our talent to fill out W9s and send
them 1099s for their 2024 taxes. Past treasurers do not recall filing
1099s for weekend talent in the past, however rates have gone up and the
threshold for filing has gone down.
Can an presently active/experienced treasurer confirm or correct my
understanding of this situation and give any insight to the process,
please? Also interested to hear experiences of talent who have had to file
1099s for earnings.
Many advance thanks for any light you can shed on this.
Best,
Virginia
