In Rochester, NY, we have a weekly contra dance, Thursday nights from 8 - 11 pm which has
been going on for over 30 years. We also have an almost-weekly Sunday night English dance
from 6:30-9:30. Each has a 15-20 minute break for snacks and socializing. Some number
of people are in the practice of leaving the Thursday night contra dance around 10. We
have considered starting the dance earlier and ending earlier, but we're not sure that
that would keep dancers till the end, and it would create difficulty for some of our bands
and callers who travel from Ithaca (2 hours away).
Good luck with your dance!

Hi All,
I'm in the process of organizing a new dance series (old style Community Contra
with a variety of dance forms). It will be on a week-day evening. I'm wondering how
long others run their regular dances, not including beginner sessions or potlucks or such.
And typically how long is your mid-break?
Thanks!

P.S. And thanks also for all the sharing that has gone on in the past on Shared Weight. I
have lots of good notes and ideas from past posts (from the Callers list).
