Hey all,
Sorry if this is slightly off topic, so I'll be brief.
Our mandolin orchestra, based in Providence RI, is looking for new
members. If you play mandolin, an instrument in the mando family,
classic guitar, or fiddle and would like to become a mando player,
please contact me off list and I will send you further info on
auditions, taking place the first wknd in Aug. Reading a must.
Many thanks,
Paul W.
PS Our rep is quite varied and interesting. Not what you might imagine.
What's a reasonable depreciation schedule for sound equipment? Not that depreciation makes any tax sense for us, but rather, it's a useful way to figure out how much we should budget over time to feed a fund to replace our equipment when it wears out.
Also, I understand there's a Contra sound group or traditional dance sound group or something like that somewhere on the Internet. Can anyone provide me with a lead?
Thanks,
Rich
Hi there,
I’ve asked several folks in the past, but find myself having to do wood
floor research again.
What finish do you put on your wood dance floor?
Are you happy with it?
What is your regular maintenance process?
Thank you,
Lisa

What tool(s) are used to track your club's expenses?
At the first Puttin' on the Dance in 2011 in White River Junction, I heard Rob Lindauer present how the Hartford Dance does it. They have a great alignment across the different dances through the use of a common spreadsheet format for reporting the event results. In addition, they use Quicken for the tax accounting. While our organization doesn't have to file the detailed tax returns (well not yet), I think it'd be good to organize our accounting so it will be easier when the time comes. It doesn't look like Quicken would be the best fit for us, so I'm reaching out to see what else is used.
Thanks!

Hi,
If you play for weddings (the ceremony part) what are some of the tunes that you use?
Our (mainly) old-time dance/background music trio found itself playing for a small, home orchard wedding a few weeks ago. Very last minute with communications hazy so we didn't know exactly what we would be doing until we got there (thank goodness for wedding photographers!). But it didn't rain, the mosquitoes were kind, the wedding went beautifully, and we got by nicely with what we had. The tune ("Waltz of the Little Girls) we thought was going to be "ceremony music" (they didn't have any) worked for the bridal party entrance and we even managed the "here comes the bride" march. They exited nicely to "Mairi's Wedding" (walking speed), and a key and speed change got the guests up and moving. A few hours just wasn't quite enough for us to comfortably play the usual (is it still usual??) Mendelssohn's Wedding March.
We don't plan to become a wedding band but we realize this could happen again and would like to have a few more appropriate tunes to draw on. Lover's Waltz we have, and the Wedding March (now) but a few more would be nice. Any general wedding suggestions appreciated as well! (such as, make sure you have chairs nearby to sit on so you don't have to stand with your instruments during the whole ceremony when you realize there is nothing nearby to sit on and no way to nicely remove yourselves (and get back for the exit) once the ceremony started) (thankfully, it wasn't a long one).
