Dudley, I recall dancing a version of Simple Gifts.  It was a few decades back, so I don't recall if you called it, or if it was attributed to you.  As I recall, it was duple proper, and went:

All side with partner.  Repeat.
Actives down center, turn as a couple, return and cast off
Right and left over and back
Actives Petronella turn and balance, Repeat

Is that the dance that should be attributed to Heidi?

Pat concocted a dance to Simple Gifts that he borrowed from my daughter Heidi who put a contra dance together to that music . She wanted a dance that had all the best parts of Chorus Jig, Money Musk and Petronella in it but ended up with mostly Petronella steps.  She loves the music, and she grew up next 3 places north of Canterbury, NH, Shaker Village so she is steeped in the lore.  I heard Pat do it once and I think he credited Heidi.  If you do this dance, be nice if you mentioned Heidi, but actually what is more important is the dance itself.    Dudley
