I was at that dance weekend in Durham that Andy blogged about. I certainly wouldn't call myself an "avid contra dancer" but I was probably the only one there who wasn't. (I'm a traditional square caller, having given up calling contras about 15 years ago). At any rate - I highly recommend Andy's teaching and great skill in "translating" MWSD language to contra language. I once was a member of an MWSD club back when I was in graduate school (an undisclosed number of years ago) - because Bob Dalsemer recommended it to me! It made me a better dancer and a better caller - and I think that is a great reason for contemporary contra dancers to stretch and try this form!
