Can I jump in?

If I were to write for a standard MWSD singing call, I would make sure that it had 64 beats per verse. There would be an intro, 2 verses for heads, middle break, two verses for sides and a closer. That equals 7 X 64 = 448 beats plus 16 beat start and 16 beat wrap and that equals 480 total beats divided by 128 beats/minute = 3 min and 45 seconds. Remember, MWSD use recorded music.

Here is my thoughts for the dance using seven verses:
Music:
_    _     _    _        _    _    _    _
_    _     _    _        Heads Sq Thru

_    _     _    _        Hds Star R with sides
_    _     _    _        Hds Star L in Center
_    _     _    _        Pass Thru, Uturn Back
_    _     _    _        _    _    DoSaDo

_    _    _    _        _    _    Swing New Partner
_    _    _    _        _    _    Promenade
_    _    _    _        _    _    _    _
_    _    _    _        _    _

repeat for heads again and twice for the sides.  The only problem would be the square thru. The sides need to step back one step to allow the four shoulders to get between them, but they don't remember to step forward to close the gap, making the square too big. NOW to add flavor to the dance on beats 63 & 64 say Number one lady out and form two stars one like Venus and one like Mars, now the ladies in and the men out change those two stars round about and now the ladies out once again and the men in and this time pickup your honey with an arm around in a star promenade. Now the men back out once and a half putting the ladies in the middle with a R Hd star promenade. Now spread the star way out wide and the girls duck under the men's right side to a left allemande, R & L Grand and Promenade home.

Slide this after the verses for heads and one verse for sides and you should have something for a dance if you first work it for one square without other people around and then have them as your slow motion demo square.

Subject: [trad-dance-callers] Bouncing square ideas

Rich's dance inspired this:

A1. Heads forward and back. Dosido opp.

A2. Swing opposit, face sides, circle left

B1. Same 4 star right,  heads star left

B2. Bal.  C, box, dosido, pull by

C1. Do paso (partner left, corner right, partner left)

C2. 4 ladies chain ........

The one thing I don't like is the dosido in the B2.  It's there for timing.  It could be taken out is you wanted a more patter square feel.

The timing is easy in the first half and a bit tighter in the second.  There isn't much partner interaction so if I ever try this I'll use a break that includes a P swing.

Here is a square with MWSD roots.  I am wondering if is too much for an
experienced contra crowd?  Is there a similar square in the trad circles?

Hds DSD and face sides (8)
Star R with the sides (8)
Hds to Center Star L (8)
With same outside two R&L Thru (6)
Rollaway with Half Sashay (4)
Box Gnat (4)
Pull By (2)
Allemande Left (4)
New Partner Swg (4)
Promenade (16)

Any thoughts?
