I am the band booker and often assist our caller booker here in Buffalo,
NY. I have put out the call to local bands for next season, starting 3rd
Sat. in Sept. I am just asking for a availability and parameters needed for
performance, I have also stipulated that this is a tentative schedule and
subject to situation and status of viral infection.
At this time we do not know when or if our dance space will again be
available. So for us this is a huge factor.
As a caller, I feel comfortable "on stage" since I can be somewhat isolated
from band and dancers.
However having said that. I think, for me, to dance or hold a dance we need
to be at zero or relatively close to that of infection (reinfection),
hospitalization and deaths due to covid-19.
People speak of a vaccine but I am personally anxious about the
effectiveness of one developed so quickly with few or small trials. We
won't know the efficacy of such a vaccine for a very long time. So for me
this will not be a factor.
These decisions will of course need to be made by groups' governing bodies
and the band members, callers and dancers.

Hello organizers,
I’m curious to hear if you are starting to book callers for your fall and
winter dances… Are you booking in hopes that COVID-19 has somehow been
resolved? Are you waiting longer?
It seems to me that it is going to be a while before we can safely have
contra dances, given the close proximity to every one and the heavy
breathing. Do we have to wait for a vaccine?
Thanks for your input…
