I have been using the same criteria as Meg - do they live in the area?  Do they have many mutual friends as me?   One challenge is that maybe they tried the dance for the first time and now want to join the group to get more info - then they wouldn't have any mutual friends, and I believe there have been a few of these instances.

I've seen that sort of thing on the Chicago group's page. I tend not to approve a request if the person has no other friends in the group, or if the profile looks "off" - very few friends, no photos, from a place far away from Chicago (why would you be interested in our dance?)

We are leery of trolls who intend to disrupt the group, and have been rejecting them.

I was wondering if other group pages are receiving similar requests, and what they have done about it.
