Here in Ottawa we use mailchimp. It seems to work pretty well. However, I
don't like how the format is so constricted. For instance, you can't make
it look like a regular text email ---> it has to remain in the 'newsletter'
looking format. I'm not a huge fan as this makes our organization look
more like a business than a community of volunteers working together.

The Houston Area Traditional Dance Society uses Mail Chimp and is happy
with it.
The subgroup of ECD dancers with about 40 people on the email list is
managed via Gmail.
