Hi Jeff and Tim,

Tim - Thanks for chiming on what you have.

Jeff - Awesome that you were able to figure out what the East Pointers were likely using and thanks so much on all the additional information on options.  It both feels daunting and was also is the info that I was looking for.  I'll need to dig a bit deeper before heading down this route but I love the effect!

:) Emily

Hey fellow dance musicians,

I was originally just going to write to Jeff Kaufman as I know he has
experience with lots of pedals but then I thought it might be a fun
discussion for the dance musician list. :)

I'm wondering if anyone knows what foot board the East Pointers are using
in this video?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17klDfqmLgk&ab_channel=SofarSounds
There's a good shot of it at 5:36.

Have you used something like this? Have you used something like this or
another drum-like approach? (Beyond a foot percussion board for
Quebecois-like rhythmic stuff.)
Any tips?

I'm looking for a relatively easy in to a foot board/drum sound.

Thanks!
Emily in Ottawa

Looks like the video has a tambourine under on the left foot and a Wild Dog
<https://www.wilddogstomp.com/> stomp box under their right, I think the
Dingo <https://www.wilddogstomp.com/product/dingo-stomp-box/>.

Stomp boxes are a nice way of getting a kick-like thumpy sound with much
less hassle than a traditional kick bass drum.  A lot of them are analog
(some sort of shell around a piezo) though I think I've seen Nova
<https://www.novatriomusic.com/> playing with a digital one (Roland SPD::ONE
<https://www.guitarcenter.com/Roland/SPDONE-Kick-Pad-1500000073775.gc?cntry=us&source=4WWRWXGP>
?)

I've tried a few different ones in my playing and ended up using beaterless
kick pedals
<https://www.guitarcenter.com/Yamaha/KU100-Beaterless-Silent-Kick-Unit-1372692950998.gc>
with
the brain
<https://reverb.com/item/66867428-yamaha-dtx500-electronic-drum-module-puente-hills-ca>
from an electronic drum kit.  One thing I really like about this setup is I
can change how the drums sound depending on what I'm doing (traditional vs
electronic) and I can even send the signal to a little computer and play
bass with them.

If you're getting started, I think the main question is what direction you
want to go?  If you just want a thumpy kick sort of sound, tapping your
foot, a simple stomp box (maybe something like the Meinl
<https://www.guitarcenter.com/MEINL/Percussion-Analog-Stomp-Box-1500000318964.gc>)
is good.  If you want to play drumkit with your feet, then I'd recommend
either something like the Farmer Footdrum
<https://www.footdrums.com/about-footdrum/> (analog) or patching together
beaterless kicks and an old electronic drum brain like I do (or see Mezerg
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-rlFaSBLg8> for a higher-end setup).
