Hi, all,
I’m calling the contra dances in Montpelier, VT, and in Cambridge, MA next weekend. I’m hoping to get some insight from people who have danced there or called there about the dance crowd and how they are as a community in helping each other, how many beginners usually come, are they fluent in dances that leave the minor set, any tips for that specific area, etc . I have info from the organizers but would love to hear from you as well. Thanks! You can respond in this group or to me directly at quiann2(a)gmail.com <mailto:quiann2@gmail.com>.
Thanks for any feedback you can provide!

I think the dance I had in mind was "Hey There" by Tom Hinds, not "The
Tease".
My mind played a trick on me. (Great title for a dance).

Here is a version of an earlier dance that came out of a recent discussion
between Chris Page and I. It is a no partner swing indecent formation
dance, sans the "Sharks & Jets" of its predecessor, and done as a no
partner swing dance in indecent formation rather than a Becket mixer.
Indecent Exposure by Bob Green (2018) (duple indecent)
A1 Neighbor balance & swing (16)
A2 Long line forward and back* (8)
Pass thru and turn alone (8)
B1 Long line forward and back* (8)
Right and left thru with new neighbor
B2 Hey for 4
* This can also be done as an advance & retreat with the line moving in
parallel. Wes Side Story is a Becket mixer where you get one swing with
your partner, and you have shadow across from you in the typical spot of a
partner in indecent formation that you never swing. h

The tease has a partner swing. If you want the ultimate non- partner dance - look at Snake River Reel by Petr LIppincott - it is a very nice dance - except you never have any contact with your partner (also a great tune with the same name - also from Peter)

The Tease does have a partner swing, but the experience of having a swing being apparently taken away (flirt with partner, swing neighbor) has many dancers thinking they missed their partner swing!
As to your question, very rarely. Dancers see the partner swing as a highlight of the partnered experience, so a dance has to be pretty special to overcome the grumpy feelings that likely ensue. There is one such dance in my box, but it’s been so long, I can’t remember what it is. I remember telling them to really enjoy their partner interaction, because that was all that they were going to get.

I cannot recall dancing a modern contra in the last few years that does not
include a Partner Swing, so I have a few questions.
First, do you call any such modern dances without a partner swing? Why or
why not?
Second, if you do, do you announce it before the preceding dance so as to
inform those pairs of dancer that love to swing together?
The Tease by Tom Hinds is one such creative dance that begs to be called.

So in terms of including the monitor in your setup it looks like from the
manual you'll have to connect your mic to the desk as usual. You'll then
need a cable back from a monitor or aux feed on the desk. Ideally this
will want to be seperate from the band mix. If you have a signal splitter
or a second output on a radio mic receiver you can send a signal directly
to the monitor (this is what I do with my setup) - this makes my monitor
entirely isolated from anything except my signal.
Physically the monitor you have can be mounted on a second mic stand fairly
easily , I'd do that and have it pointed at me and not on the floor so as
to make it as localised as possible.
