I think it very much depends on local conditions.  I have been
disappointed to see some local dances starting up NOW, when
conditions do not yet feel safe (to me).  My personal opinion is:
    a) it will be impossible to police a vaccination requirement, and
easy to lie or fake some kind of documentation if someone is
determined to thwart such a requirement
    b) requiring vaccination makes *some* people inclined to try to
thwart it just out of spite, because they don't like regulations of
    any kind
    c) there is an equity issue about requiring vaccination... some
people may not be able to be vaccinated for some personal reason
    that really isn't a dance organizer's business.

SO, I think it requires herd immunity.  In my mind, when the local
health department says it's safe to have indoor gatherings, with
high density (large numbers and no distancing), with strangers, --
such as a nightclub mosh pit scene -- THEN I think public contra
dances will be a reasonable undertaking.  Until then, I'm game for
small house parties with people I know and trust, where I can
request that only people who are vaccinated attend, without feeling
responsible for the equity issue of inadvertently excluding someone
from a public event, and where I can control the numbers and we can
do our own contact tracing in case someone gets Covid in spite of
being vaccinated.  I suppose if I were asked to book for the fall, I
would take the booking with the understanding that it's tentative,
and if herd immunity has not yet been achieved, based on CDC specs
and local data, then either one of us could cancel the event with no
obligation to the other, and I would make it clear that I would do
    so.

    My ten cents.

      Hi Everyone,

The pandemic has shut down dances for nearly 15 months, but things
may be beginning to change. I would like your input on this --

I just received my first request to call at a regular community
dance. The dance would be scheduled for September. (The organizers
are beginning to schedule for the fall.) This would be a typical
evening indoor dance held in a gym. Pre-covid attendance was
70-100. The organizers assured me that safety protocols would be
followed, etc. I have not responded yet. (I am fully vaccinated.)

Has anyone else begun receiving invitations to call dances? How
far out? What are your thoughts on this situation? What is your
sense of risk and comfort and community responsibility? I'd really
like to get some feedback from this group.

      Thanks!
      Woody
