In case anyone's wondering what a "flying basket" is, you can
see an example at about 1:32-1:42 in this video

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPXrB7Ku3KM

where it's done by well-practiced exhibition dancers with
plenty of space around them

At the traditional square dances I attended in Pittsburgh in
the early 1980s, various Appalachian-style two-couple figures,
including baskets ("Four hands across. Ladies bow; gents know
how. ..."), were fairly often included in an evening's program.
For a while, there were some dancers who liked to do flying
baskets. What they did wasn't as extreme as the version in
the video. The ladies might have been raised to about the
angle shown in this photo

or perhaps a little higher.

In any case, one time some of those flying feet stuck out far
enough to bring down one of the loudspeakers. Fortunately,
nobody was hurt. But the incident caused flying baskets to
fall into disfavor (including the disfavor of the local
callers/organizers).
